A competitive Patrol Activity for Scouts held at a number of locations throughout Victoria at which, Patrols compete in different OAS and SIA areas. They include bushcraft, bushwalking, cooking, Scouting skills, environment and first aid. The Scout Council wishes to remind all Patrol Leaders that your Patrols are competing against themselves and a set standard, not against the other Patrols.
Patrols qualifying in each of the five activities become co-holders of the Cohen Shield. Most venues offer Cohen Shield as a weekend event, where Patrols have the chance to participate in a range of other fun events in addition to the main Cohen activities.
It is a standing camp, where we camp in our large tents, use stretchers and have a small gazebo based camp kitchen.
In winter and even in September, your Scout needs to be prepared for cold and wet conditions.
In addition to our standard gear list (see Standing camp list), there are a couple of things to make sure you bring:
a decent sleeping bag*
an inner sheet for your sleeping bag
thermals
a beanie, gloves and scarf
a waterproof coat
plenty of clothes to layer up - thermals/T-shirts/fleece tops/warm coat
